BAU FAIRY & WIND CAVES

"Anah Rais" BIDAYUH LONGHOUSE

Annah Rais is the Bidayuh Longhouse. the second largest ethnic group in Sarawak. When making a visit to the Bidayuh longhouse, you will be able to see the splendid architecture of their longhouse, which were build mostly by bamboo. Annah Rais located about 100 km east from Kuching City and near to the Indonesian border. The excursion will take about one and a half-hour on the road. BAKO NATIONAL PARK

IBAN LONGHOUSE EXPERIENCE (Full Day)

Traditional Iban Longhouse Safari. A village of 20 - 25 'bilek' or rooms (each for one family) all under one roof of a long stretch wooden house standing on stilts. The expedition will begin with a car ride passing through the scenic greenery countryside. The vast land on both side of the road are can be seen dotted with vegetable farms, padi fields, rubber, pepper oil palm and cocoa plantations which generated some of the top revenue earner crops of Sarawak. En route you will have a brief stopover at small native town called Serian for chance to experience the busy daily wet market.

A brief lunch break will be at 'Lachau' - small popular 'cowboy' town for Indonesian natives from the nearby Kalimantan border town to do barter trade without the proper document. You could do your last minute shopping for the visiting gift to present to your Iban host. The car ride will end at a riverbank where a further native longboat ride will take you upstream.

Boat ride journey varies depending on which longhouse and water level of the river from 20 min to nearly an hour. Poling under tress bending protectively over the river and shooting rapids (during dry season, you might be required get down and help the boatman to drag the boat for a short distance) before arriving at your destination.

Upon arrival at the Longhouse, you can tour around the longhouse while the " semi-wild " boars and hunting dogs running nearby. You can mingle with the Longhouse folks & talk about their daily activities and the communal style of living at the Longhouse or share your side of the story. The Iban maidens and 'warriors' will perform a welcome dance while 'tuak' - the locally brewed rice wine are served as welcome drink. Demonstration of their favourite gambling game - 'cock fighting' and using of the blowpipe will be held at the open space. This is a chance for you to try on this popular leisure game and polish your skill of using the deadly weapon - 'blowpipe'.

SANTUBONG WILDLIFE CRUISE

Around the rivers of the Santubong Peninsular, offering you the chance of seeing some of Sarawak's fascinating wildlife. The cruise starts at Sarawak Boat Club. From there your boat cruises to the mouth of the Santubong River, where Irrawaddy dolphins are often spotted. Your boat then roams the mangrove-lined rivers looking for wildlife. As the light starts to fade we go in search of the rare proboscis monkey. Small groups are often seen in the treetops at the water edge, settling down for the night. As dusk arrives we search for fireflies and crocodiles. Crocodiles are often seen on the mud banks and brightly shining crocodile eyes can be spotted when a torch light is passed over the river. After searching for crocodiles your boat proceeds further up river where fireflies gather at night. Watch the fireflies move around the branches of the mangroves, momentarily lighting up the night sky.

GUNUNG GADING NATIONAL PARK (LUNDU)

SINIAWAN OLD TOWN - NIGHT MARKET (Weekend only)

Siniawan old town - age more than 100 years; just to enjoy a moment of old town feel there. Set up by the folks/kapitan, between two rows of wooden shops, you will find a short stretch of stalls selling handmade stuff and of course food and cakes. Its not only Chinese food, you will get Malay and natives selling there too. The old quiet bazaar is brought to life every Friday and Saturday evening starting 6.30pm to 10pm. Local folks sing life on stage, red lanterns stringed from one end to the other. Don't forget to try the Lui Teh, Pitcher Plant Rice and the Ngo Hiang here, which is very recommended for a food lover!!
